Dental implants:
Modern dental prosthetics is unthinkable without dental implants. An implant is a sort of a titanium screw that is inserted into the jaw bone. Inside the implant is a threaded cavity in which your new tooth is screwed. After the surgical procedure, during which the implant is inserted into the bone, it is necessary to wait 3-6 months for the implant to heal in the bone. Once the implant has healed, a specially made, pre-fabricated abutment is inserted in place of the thread – it serves as a base for individually producing in the dental technical laboratory the tooth itself, the latter can be made of different materials.
The operation to place one implant lasts about 20-30 minutes. Once the implant has healed after 3-6 months, a crown can be placed.

Advantages of the zirconium crown.
It has three main advantages:

- Aesthetics: this material has an attractive translucent colour, which can be worked to the colour of a natural tooth as aesthetically as possible.
- More of the existing tooth is preserved: less grinding of the supporting tooth is required, which means that more of the original tooth is preserved.

Cermet crown – the cheapest of all available materials
The cermet crown is one of the oldest used types of dentures, which is often used in the manufacture of individual crowns and bridge frames. Cermet crowns are often made in the lateral tooth area, as it is considered durable but not aesthetic enough to produce the anterior teeth protheses.
Many people prefer zirconium crowns to achieve greater aesthetic appeal.
The cermet crown consists of a metal frame, usually 0.3 mm thick, which forms a support. A layer of ceramic is applied over this metal frame, which helps to get the desired tooth colour, but not always, because the grey metal tone can shine through or give a grey shade.
The disadvantage of a cermet crown is its structural compatibility between the metal and the ceramic. The crown can crack under heavy loading. The process of making a cermet crown is complicated, which increases the possibility of errors, thus reducing the service life.
In order to give a cermet crown an aesthetic appeal, natural teeth shall be grinded more, which can also affect the service life.
Finally, over time, cermet crowns tend to oxidize and discolour the gums with a blue tone, which impairs aesthetics. There are people who get expressive about the blue tone and would prefer non-metallic ceramic crowns especially for the anterior teeth.
